  • In the first two years, we warranted 94 saddles for leather that stretched prematurely, 27 for bent frames, 3 for broken frames, and 3 failed welds on the tension screw nut. That represents about 0.01% of production since inception. Saddles returned for a refund represent 0.001%. We introduced 4th Generation Watershed tannage in 2008 that is going to help reduce the number of saddles that stretch prematurely. Being as this is not manmade material, we will likely have a very small number of saddles that stretch out sooner than we'd like. That said, the riding comfort reputation Selle An-Atomica is becoming well known for around the world is unsurpassed. That was our goal when research & development work begin in earnest.

  • August 2007 - Selle An-Atomica conquers Paris Brest Paris 1200km and Alpe d'Huez 4 days hence!

PBP Distance Ridden 1233.6 km (766.5 miles). Elapsed Time 88 hrs 54 minutes. Riding Time approximately 70 hrs. Fastest Speed 61 kph.

Saddle customers continue to report finishing PBP with no saddle issues of consequence while nearly all other riders struggled to survive saddle sores with varying degrees of severity.

Photo at left is Tom & company during a dry spell sometime Tuesday having ridden through the night after 9:30 pm Monday start. I had planned to ride through to Brest, the ride mid point. Weather was so terrible I stopped at Tinteniac to eat, shower, sleep/dry out, eat, and go. Photo below on left are father and son farmers in rural French countryside beyond Tinteniac Wednesday morning very early. These fellows were there cheering and clapping as we passed so I turned around to amuse them with my meager French language skills and the unusual Calfee Design Bamboo bike. Alpe d'Huez photo speaks for itself. This is a permanent winners stand at the top of this famous 21 hairpin 13 km climb in the Rhone Alpes. If you go to attempt this climb stay at Hotel de Milan in Bourg d'Oisans, the small town at the foot of the climb. Everything you need is on two blocks of downtown adjacent to the hotel along the quaint stone street. There is an excellent bike shop across from the hotel. See Jean Louis for dinner. He is the proprietor at Restaurant de France up the street. You'll want the signature aperitif Jean Louis makes when not stitching his hiking and riding clothes, aperitif followed by the signature tartiflettes main dish, one of the best cycling meals on the planet if you like potatoes and three cheeses. The restaurant across the main highway from the Hotel on the opposite side of the river makes excellent continental dishes and pizzas with riverside outdoor dining. Laundry is two blocks up the cobblestones with outstanding glacier, crepe, sausage, bread, and chocolate makers in between.

Tom's PBP bicycle equipment: Custom handmade Calfee Design Bamboo frame with PBP specific geometry and special Alpha Q carbon fork, Selle An-Atomica Robusto Watershed leather development test saddle, Campagnolo Record Group, Chris King hub set with Stainless Steel freewheel hub, Cycle Dynamics 11-30 Titanium cassette, DT Swiss straight gauge spokes black, Mavic Open Pro 32 hole rims black, Continental GP 4 Season 700 x 25 tires with Michelin Butyl A-1 inner tubes, Speedplay Frog pedals clipped to Sidi Narrow Mountain shoes, FSA alloy stem, Ritchey Biomax Pro carbon short shallow bars with special anatomic padding and Selle An-Atomica Watershed leather bar tape, Tubus dual level setback alloy rear rack with Busch & Muller tail lamp and Ortlieb panniers, Topeak frame pump, Full Wood fenders, Cateye headlamps and 8 function computer. Want to see detail photos of the bike taken after PBP at a car wash in Bourg d'Oisans where it received a much needed bath. Go Here.

Tom Milton rode a new out of the box development test saddle to start and finish Paris Brest Paris in 89 hours without any saddle issues to speak of. According to PBP organizers this was either the most difficult PBP in 50 years or in it's 116 year history. It rained every day and night. It was chilly. It was windy. Tom rode PBP self contained carrying his extra changes of cycling clothes, fowl weather gear, spare parts, other essentials, and emergency food stuffs in two small Ortlieb panniers.

If you attempted to qualify for PBP, qualified, or rode this fabled event and did not receive one of our Limited Edition PBP 2007 Selle An-Atomica pins send us a padded, stamped, addressed envelop and we will return it with a free enameled pin.

  • Paris Brest Paris ride photos are here. Captions and the story "A Week Awake" are posted.

  • Calfee Design Bamboo "The new high tech frame material." Real bamboo provides "the quiet ride." These splendid frames are carefully handcrafted by experts after ten years of analytic tests. 600k brevet finished in real comfort. 26+ hrs riding time. 31+ hrs elapsed time. 46+ hrs without sleep due to 8 pm start and nonstop ride. Read the Maiden Voyage article pdf here.

  • We've tested Topolino Revelation C19 wheel sets recently against Campagnolo Record/Mavic Open Pro wheels and Mavic Ksyrium SSL SC wheels over our 1/100 test course. This is a route with 100' of hard climbing elevation gain for every mile and washboard paving that pounds the wheel, bike, and rider as the miles pile up. We find that Topolino wheels absorb a remarkable amount of road noise & vibration and they a eerily quiet whether pedaling or coasting. Topolino wheels are extremely light weight, strong, stiff, and silent. They inspire confidence on the fastest technical downhill roads. They are so good they are spooky.

  • Weight Weenies take note: Stefan Behrens is the head of CarbonSports GmbH, maker of the most sought-after wheels in the professional peloton: Lightweight. "As far as I have experienced, the pros like the stiffness the most. Of course they like that they are very light and aero, but they don't care about the weight as much as some hobby riders do. They don't care if the set is 1100g or 1080g. They don't put them on the scale. When we sell to a hobby rider he will immediately put them on the scale. No pro rider will do that. All pro riders want the stiffness."
